Yep, another new grad question....

OK guys, I know that you are asked by new grads for all kinds of advice, however, mine is just a little bit different....

I am done on Tuesday with clinicals:D And start a new position in L&D later this month as a RNLP in a different level 2 hospital...my question is twofold...

1) Any advice for the new grad who has a lot of exposure as a tech in L&D? I can read monitors pretty well, know the basic interventions for care ie, what to do in the event of a decel, and can pretty much rattle off the admission assessment off the top of my head (I heard it many times and have helped in an emergency quite a few times as well) I have been told by my manager...to kinda play it dumb, act like I know nothing, and let them train me their way, which is fine, cuz I definately DON"T know everything!!! Never could! I know I have a LOT to learn, but I have some background...what do you all think, coming from the precepter's point of view???

2) In my overzelious excitement on finally becoming an RN, I became NRP certified last summer and have registered for a EFM class out of my current perinatal network. The nurse manager seemed impressed as did HR. However, when I told the nurse educator, she seemed a little annoyed...saying "why would you do that???"..."I will send you when I think you are ready"...I am a little taken aback, it thought it would be good exposure, its a basic course and I would like to become certified by AWHONN after a year or so, I plan to become a RNC after two or so years, what can I say I am excieted and love to learn anything medical especially OB. I thought if anything this would show my interest and dedication to OB nursing, my manager now suggested that I take that course and a high risk OB course as well, she thinks I can handle it... now with those comments I kinda feel like a fool...
