R U helpful with new nurses??

I was wondering how most of the OB nurses feel about new nurses on their floors? I'm going for my BSN and hopefully can get into OB and was just wondering if most people are helpful to the "newbies"???

Any suggestions to make it easier for me and the nurses helping me would be appreciated.

If you are wanting to work and learn and show your willingness, most nurses will bend over backwards for you. It's the ones who are always late, even on orientation, who call out sick a lot, who sit at the desk.....you get the picture......who I usually give up on, maybe without a fair trial. I just think we're at work to do the best we can for our patients. If in the bargain we form some close attachments, that is icing on the cake. In any kind of nursing, but especially in OB where when bad things happen, they do so quickly, and bad is really BAD, after a while you depend on your coworkers as war buddies. Find one you can trust and stick with him or her. You'll learn so much and have so much fun!!! and when the bad times do come you'll have a great support system.

Exactly. And when you are no longer a new nurse, try to keep in mind how YOU felt...That will enable you to be as helpful as you can...Welcome to the field! Just be yourself and stand your ground when you need to. I have always found following my intincts and treating people the way I would like to be treated, worked and works well for me...
