I am burnt out

I keep hearing the song "another one bites the dust, and another ones down and another ones down another one bites the dust". I'm so burnt out on hospital nursing. I'm hoping it's just the "hospital" part and not the entire nursing part. I'm just venting. Looking for encouragement I guess. I have been applying for different jobs outside of the hospital environment. I guess I just need a change.

With the L and D experience, if you are truly burnt out on hospital you can always go to a OB/Gyn office. The nurses at my Ob's office always seem so upbeat and happy like they truly enjoy their jobs. Then again, I have the best, nicest OB in the world... great man. Never seen him not smiling :)

BTDT. I'm sorry. That was me two years ago. I was lucky to find a wonderful job in perinatal research, so I was still able to work in the specialty I love, in the same hospital where I worked, so I was familiar with the people and how things were done. Now I'm interviewing for a job as assistant nurse manager for an OB/gyn clinic.

Just wanted to let you know I understand, and if you love maternal/fetal medicine, there are still lots of opportunities outside being a bedside nurse.

There is a program called nurse family partnership in most states. Look it up. It's mom baby home visits. Might be a nice break for you. Good luck.

Thanks everybody. The constant pressure on nurses, the backstabbing by each other and some doctors, the horrible management in my particular floor, the terrible hours, the understaffing.... Im just done. Im starting my MSN in FNP next month, but i still have tonwork full time. Believe me, i wish i could get a job in an ob/gyn clinic but the market around here is flooded and trying to find any job is difficult. Ive got a lot of irons in the fire, so hopefully something will come up soon.
