Future L&D nurse, HOPEFULLY!

My ultimate goal is to be a Midwife, and I'd love to get into L&D. I just got hired into a pulmonary progressive unit as my first nursing job. I am really excited to begin but nervous if I made a bad decision to start at pulmonary instead of a plain med-surg floor.

Does anyone have any stories or recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

Caitlin

I don't think working on a pulmonary floor is a bad thing. There will be women who are pregnant and come in with respiratory/cardiac problems that you will be better equipped to assess and intervene on.

You'll be fine.

Pulmonary/respiratory issues are very important and can be challenging - its basics Airway, Breathing,Circulation....you'll be well equipped to deal with emergencies and your patients will most likely have many co-morbidities to keep you on your toes....

Learn as much as you can and then move on to get the experience/job you want! :twocents::nurse:

I'm hoping to be a CNM too! I'm about to graduate and have been looking for L&D jobs - might have to do Med/Surg too. Good luck!
