CNM to be -- best way to become one

Hi all. I am currently taking my prereqs so that I can enter a RN program and then go and get my MSN/MA in Nurse Midwifery. I already have a BA in a different area. Here is my question: should I get an ADN or BSN? Most of the Master's programs have a RN entry (non-BSN) and obviously an ADN is SO MUCH cheaper. BUT, part of me feels like, if I'm going to do it, I should just get the BSN and also the BSN programs in my area seem more attractive and organized.

I live in Boston and am considering Bunker Hill Community College for the ADN and Simmons for the BSN. Simmons has an 18 month accelerated program. The Bunker Hill program is about 2 years. Simmons is about 30-40k and Bunker Hill would be about 3000. Obviously, it seems like I should just go get the ADN.

Any advice or thoughts? How much does it matter if I do not get the BSN?

Do you know where you want to obtain your Masters? Programs vary from school to school- and requirements vary within states. There are also a number of programs that allow you to enter with a BA/BS or higher and leave with your Masters and either a certificate as an RN, or a BSN, and your MSN or MN. I guess what I am trying to say (and being very wordy! :p ) is look at your goal as a determinate for your path.

As a BSN you will have a few more options (ie management)

GOOD LUCK :balloons: and go for it!

I already have another degree also, but that was part of the reason I wanted to go ahead and do BSN - the time for either one was about the same so I figured I'd get the more advanced degree. Some MSN programs want it as well.

Your tuition difference is bigger than mine, though, so I see that problem. Wouldn't you be more likely to qualify for finiancial aid at the expensive school though? Do you have a state university you could go to? I am lucky that my husband supports me financially so I plan to pay mine back when I'm getting L&D experience between BSN school and MSN school. The money issue will eventually fade away and I'll still have the BSN.

Overall, I would check with all the MSN programs you are interested in, since that's really your ultimate goal.
