Changing to a New Specialty

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hey All!

I currently have 15 yrs med-surg-oncology experience. I've been contemplating making some kind of change in my career for the last year or so. I feel like I'm at a crossroad. My issue is that I don't plan on moving up on my unit. I've been relief charge and honestly....It's just not my thing..I also don't plan on becoming a supervisor or anything like that...

So...I decided to apply for a transfer to a new specialty rn position in labor and delivery. I always had an interest since before nursing school. I'm excited, yet anxious about this change. What if it's too late to start something new?? I haven't told any of my supervisors or peers just in case for some reason I don't get the position. What do you think? Thanks for reading :)

It's never too late! Apply! :)

I think your experience especially in oncology will likely give you a hand in Labor and Delivery/OB. you've seen how important that family unit is. You've had opportunities to be creative in patient care and individualize care to each and every individual patient.

I say, never to late, welcome.

Specializes in OB/GYN, L&D, Postpartum Couplet Care.

I think you should go for it without hesitation. Don't let fear of failure or change hold you back. The only thing that will prevent you from realizing your dreams is fear.

You've got experience as an RN. You can totally do this! Good luck...

Never too late! I think we are neighbors so next time you are walking your daughter to school let's chat!

I think you'll love. Go for it!

Thank You All for your wonderful words of encouragement :) It makes me feel better about this decision. I haven't heard anything yet, but I'll keep up w/any updates. Have a wonderful week/weekend!!
