Anyone else at convention in LA this past week? That was my first time and it was amazing! It is in San Diego next year, June 28- July 1. I encourage you to attend if you can.

It was inspiring, validating and practice-changing for me. I attended Kathleen Rice- Simpson's Second Stage of Labor talk this morning, and you can bet that I will be handling my patients differently from now on. No more valsalva pushing. No more lithotomy positioning and stirrups. I have toyed with the AWHONN recommendations before with good results, but they are never validated by the other nurses on the floor (or the MDs, but I don't even want to go there!). Now I have much more confidence in the evidence behind the guidelines and will be braver and more of an advocate for my patients.

I urge you all to buy the new evidence-based guidelines from AWHONN for second stage labor. It will be out in the next couple of months. Get one for your unit as well. Good reading and practice changing for a lot of us.

I would have loved to go. Too much going on right now, but hopefully next year I'll be in attendance.

I would have loved to go too! Since I haven't started working yet the air fare is just too expensive on my dh's salary alone.
