Am going to be taking my ati exit exam in couple months can someone plz help me

1. never pass the buck (this is a BIG one)

2. never leave the patient alone

3. only ask help from another nurse if a patient is critically declining. ask a UAP for help if you need equipment to assess first.

4. least critical tasks delegate to the UAP. Anything that requires assessment, evaluation, discharge delegate to an RN. Anything that requires medication passes you can delegate to an LPN unless it requires strictreassessments (dilaudid, digoxin, etc)

5. NEVER NEVER NEVER leave a patient in the middle of giving an IVP medication (I keep seeing one or two of these types of questions).

**SEE # 2

6. Always call the doctor if electrolytes are way out of balance if patient is showing symptoms.

7. Same as # 6 when post op bleeding symptoms are concerned (remember: decreased BP / increased HR = internal bleeding post-op)

8. Remember your: ABCs = 123 :) - but READ the question, do not automatically choose airway whenever you see a respiratory, breathing, circulation question.

9. Physiological adaptation always > psychosocial

** if the question is asking a psychosocial answer: look for an open question response FIRST, and if there is none, look for an affirmation type response

10. Remember this: ABC = Airway, Breathing, Circulation EXCEPT when it comes to CPR: ABC stands for Airway, Breathing, COMPRESSIONS...oh, and the AHA now has it in order of CAB.

BONUS ADVICE:

When delegating to a new nurse, IMMEDIATELY cross out ANY answer that is "first day post op" or "recently diagnosed." Rationale: new nurses need to see stable patients to gain confidence in assessment skills, anticipating problems, patient education (my personal favorite - no joke), and evaluating outcomes.

That should give you a good start.
