Hello, I was hoping to get a little help with a reconstitution math problem. I see that someone posted the same problem, unfortunately I keep coming up with a different answer. Thanks:confused:

Order: Zosyn 2.5g

Available: 3.375g vial of powered Zosyn

Directions: Reconstitute Zosyn w/ 5mL of saline for a total solution volume of 5mL

Give_____

This is my formula: 3.375/2.5 = 1.35

1.35x5mL = 6.75mL

My answer: give 6.75mL

The correct answer is 3.7mL, what am I doing wrong?

Your formula should be: Desired dose divided by dose on hand times quantity. SO...

2.5/3.375=0.74.... x 5=3.7mL

:)

Thanks, I am an idiot!!!!:lol2:

LOL I doubt that! We just testined on this last week, so it's fresh! ;)

Wow, make that TESTED! LOL

Order: Zosyn 2.5g

Available: 3.375g vial of powered Zosyn in 5 mL

3.375g / 5 mL = = 2.5g/ x mL

solve for the mL

5 mL * 2,5g/ 3.375g = 3.7mL

Hi,

I have a question about the same problem previously discussed, just with a different request.

Order: Zosyn 2.5g

Available: 3.375g vial of powered Zosyn

Directions: Reconstitute Zosyn w/ 5mL of saline for a total solution volume of 5mL

The concentration is _____ g/ml

How much powder do you have? 3.375g

With what volume of NS are you to reconstitute it? 5 mL

So, how many grams will be in each mL if there are 3.375g in 5mL?
