Buying a Stethoscope

Hi everyone,

I saw a 3M Littmann Classic II SE Stethoscope Pink Breast Cancer edition for sale for approx. $80 CAD ($63USD). I am planning on applying to nursing school this coming summer. So with that said, I'm not accepted or starting any time soon (if I get accepted, I will be starting January 2010). A friend of mine who's already in nursing school said that she bought her at the beginning of her first year at school and it was really expensive and that if I can get it for something around $75 CAD it would be considered as a really good price.

I know that Littmann's is a highly regarded brand, I was wondering if this is one in particular is considered as a good stethoscope? Is it a good price?

Also, should I get it now, or I should wait until I get accepted because this offer is not going to last long. Will stethoscopes go bad and crack if I leave it unused for a really long time?

I have kind of a dumb question. Next semester I start my clinical's and we need to get a stethoscope, but the instructors told us it needed to have a turn-able diaphragm/bell piece. Do they all have one of those or is there a special one I need to buy? I have looked at the Littmann Classic II but it doesnt say it has a turn-able chest piece. I have an old stehoscope that I bought but it has two tubes connecting to the chestpieace but we need to get one with just one tube. But the one that I have does have a turn-able chest piece so I was just wondering if thats standard for all of them or if there is a special one I need to buy. Thanks!

I just bought my brandnew Littman Classic II SE from a medical company that sells some of their items on ebay. with shipping, it cost me $74(something cents). So i think your $80 is seemingly well priced. Its insane how the medical places here in hawaii though charge $130-$140 for it. But atleast, It is on its way now, cant wait! :)

Just curious what the verdict was on the GRX CD-29. I've seen them on eBay and I wondered if they were a step up from the Littmann Classic II S.E.? Thoughts on it?
