Nursing school in Puerto Rico and the financial crisis. Is it a good idea?

Hello! I'm planning on starting Nursing school at Interamericana Universidad Metro in August. I'm starting to get a bit worried about how the financial crisis will effect nursing school (hospitals closing down so less clinical rotations, schools closing) has anyone in Puerto Rico going to nursing school felt the effects of the crisis? Any opinions, experiences or similar experiences would be appreciated! Thanks! Lacy

Hi! I'm going down for nursing school next week. I will hopefully be attending La Interamerican BSN bilingual program. As a student, i don't think it would be that bad, now if you are planning to live there after, well... I suppose that is another story.

Thanks for your reply!! I worry about not having as many rotations because hospitals may close and the cost of utilities and food sky rocketing. Do you already have a place to live?

I wouldn't go unless you've got 30k stashed away to live off of for the next few yrs. There are no jobs there. Everything is ludicrously expensive. The school has it's own host of issues. You'll have to go through credentialing before being eligible to sit for NCLEX (State BONs will treat you as a foreign nurse).

Rotations were already hit or miss before. Depends on how ambitious your clinical professor is. They're tough to get because all nursing schools in PR do them in the same time frame.

How is the program going for you at Inter? I will be starting in November. Did you find housing before going down to PR?
