New with Question????

Nurses Safety

Published

Hi I'm new here... I am going to school to become an RN (haven't started any nursing classes yet) but my concern is about my BIL. He is an RN and works in the ER he's done traveling nursing as well. Recently he moved back to my hometown and is working at an area Hospital in the ER.

I overheard him speaking to my DH about taking medications from the hospital DH thought he was joking and asked if he could get him some more Oxycodone my DH had recently had brain surgery but is fully recovered and was just joking with him. BIL laughed and said I can't get prescribed drugs but I get such and such I don't remember the exact meds.

Basically I took it as he's stealing.

Since I am not familiar with all the meds that are given in the ER I am unsure exactly what Meds he does take from the hospital but I am sure taking anything medication wise is wrong and illegal???

I knew before something sounded fishy about him b/c when a family member of his would pass he immediately went to their medicine cabinet and would take what was left and family members would not say anything b/c they treat BIL as if he is G*D b/c he's an RN (For about 6-7 years now). He's even made comments infront of me that the only thing he got that was left was over the counter allergy pills and made a fuss how the Hospice got to the "good" meds first to dispose of them.

His family members also consult with him first if they are sick or not feeling right he's even gone as far as telling one family member who's father was ill to up a dose of prescription med. and they did without consulting with the father's own Doctor first lets say that the father ended up having to go back to the hospital.

What should I do I feel that he is wrong for what he is doing?
