Congrats on getting the interview and I know you will do well.
Also take a look at the post toward the top of the NI Forum titled: "Suggested NI/IT/IS Interview Questions
You should also review a copy of the job description and remember you are also interviewing them.
Now, first I will say that the best one to ask this question of would be the IT and Nursing Informatics Depts that you will be interviewing with, as hospitals may have a similar organizational structure but the roles may be delineated in different ways.
I will tell you about the models that I have seen and managed.
At some hospitals the IT dept is where the analysts that support clinical information systems modules (LIS, Clinical documentation, etc) and or provide application support to departments (clinical as well as financial departments) such as -Lab, Pharmacy and or Registration. These "analysts may report to the IT dept. but they are nurses or clinicians.
The NIs (Nurse Informaticists) are nurses that report to Nursing and support nursing specific applications or areas such as Nursing/Clinical documentation, BCMA (bar code med admin systems), Case Management, etc. You may have NIs who support the pharmacy or surgical depts. or those areas may be supported by IT dept analysts.
Additionally the clinical systems' trainers/educators can be NI (who report to Nursing or Staff Development) or the IT trainers could be IT analysts (nurses or non- clinicians with any number of other job titles) who report to IT.
There are also organization models where the Nurse Informaticists reside in and report to the IT dept.
See, that’s what I meant earlier by the best ones to ask are the organizational representatives you will be interviewing with.

I am currently interviewing for a position as system analyst EMR clinical in which the position required an RN degree. I'll be responsible for collecting the paperwork from the clinic, analysis of the data, doing their system build and putting it into production, being there for the GO LIVE and supporting the clinic through the GO LIVE for 2 weeks after it goes live. At our Hospital we are considered in the IT department and we also have a Nursing Informatics department. Can someone explain to me how they work together and how they are different?
I will be fortunate that if I get this position I'll be able to go to Madison and have Epic training and be eligible for certifications in the Epic system.
Thanks for any information
