I found out that I failed my boards. I feel terrible! I took all 265 questions. This would the RN boards. I know that I have to re-apply and pay all the fees again. I also know that you have to re-submit your transcript. I really do not want my former nursing instructors to know that I failed boards. All 6 of them were so good, I would hate to let them know. So, my question is. When I request my nursing transcript to be sent to the board of nursing, does the nursing instructors find out? OR do they ever find out at all?? This is kind of a stupid questions, but I really don't want the instructors to know that I failed. Thanks!!! JOE M.

At least in NC, we know almost IMMEDIATELY when one of our former students did not pass the boards the first time. We keep an eye out--check the BON site (lists numbers of those who passed). Also, if our passage rate is low (low 80's, 70's), then this is considered a serious matter (warranting a BON visit). Very sorry for you, Joe. Try to keep your chin up and not be devastated. Just know many fine nurses did not pass the boards on their first time around.

Joe,

If memory serves me, your school of nursing will know who has passed in your class.

I wish I could say anything to help you feel better about this. It's very hard to not feel terrible. You need to keep in mind this failure is not a measure of who you are as a person, rather a measure of your base of nursing knowledge

Years ago the exam was in 5 parts so if a student failed he/she would know their weak areas. Do you know what you need to focus on? Perhaps it would be helpful to seek out one of those instructors for advice and support.

Hang in there.
