What type of nursing?

Nurses Career Support

This has probably already been asked but I couldn't find it. I'll be graduating this May from the RN program and plan on traveling within a couple years. Is there a certain field that I should concentrate on? I was wondering if there is a bigger demand for a specific field?

I am a current traveller so I shall try to answer this question. Specialty needs change all the time in travelling. Currently I see high paying jobs going to Med Surg travellers (really!) and Land D/OB. Emergency doesn't seem to be paying quite as well. In addition Traveller salaries will vary hugely from region to region. In the Southeastern US, for example, you will find Salaries lower than in the North East. Some States require your agency to pay a fee for having you work there, New mexico and Arizona (I think on AZ, this is changing)...so your pay will again be lowered.

Instead of practicing a certain kind of nursing because you might be able to make money at it, why not choose something youreally enjoy doing!!! I know if I had done L and D I would be in the big money right now, but honestly, I am not one for brand new families...so even though I am making less, in Emergency Nursing, I am happier there.

Good Luck!
