What to ask a nursing manager?

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hey all, I'm a new grad and I managed to get a second interview for a telemetry floor tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone could help me think of some good questions to ask the manager, and what else to anticipate past the HR recruiter's more general questions. The patient load, benefits, etc were handled in my first interview.

I have the following thus far:

1. How would you describe your management style?

2. How do you work on team building with your team members?

3. How do you handle conflict management between your nurses?

4. How many PCTs are on a standard shift?

Thanks, guys

1. Details about the orientation program

2. Details about on-going education after orientation

3. Role of the staff nurse in any unit-based committees or projects

4. Availability of support services such as Social Work, Chaplains, Case Managers, Discharge Planners, etc.

5. How would he/she describe a "great staff nurse"? That helps you identify what his/her values are and how you will be judeged. I always ask that one.

Just off the top of my head.
