What makes a good step-down RN?

Hello everyone,

If anyone works or has worked on a step-down unit, please help. I have an interview for a Surgical/Surgical Step-down unit and I am a new grad. The patients are vascular, cardiothoracic, and bariatric. It seems very fast-paced and exciting. I have the following questions:

1. What is it like to work on this type of unit? What do you love/hate about working there?

2. What skills and personality traits are needed to thrive on a step-down unit?

I REALLY would appreciate any insight! :redbeathe

OP - how did this interview process turn out for you? I am curious because I am also a new grad, and will be working on a surgical-step down unit as well...
