Unpaid internship fitness specialist, worth it?

Nurses Career Support

Published

I was wondering if I should get an internship as a fitness specialist at a local gym.

It is unpaid for 12 weeks, but they say they will hire if a position does come up after you complete the 12 weeks. I am hoping I can get a part time job here while in nursing school. My problem is I don't know if this would help me find a job as a PCT. Everyone wants experience even for entry level jobs.

Some of the things you have to do are

1. Research medicine and their effect on resting and exercising heart rate

2. 1 on 1 with members and discussing current and past health history, as well as future fitness goals

3. Report medical or orthopedic issues that might require medical clearance.

I was wondering if this would be helpful at all in the future? I am having a difficult time finding a part time job. I am currently voluteering at a hospital, as well as upcoming interviews at a hospital for a PCT position.
