Surviving Higher Education and Changing Job Desriptions

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello All,

I am new to discussion posts and am unsure what to expect! But here goes, I have been a Registered Nurse for 30 years, After a 10 year gap to care for my family I have returned to nursing in the hospital setting for the past 6 years. This year my workplace announced they, like most other hospitals in NH, were going to require BSN or higher by 2020.

So I have started an online education program at the young age of 50 something. I am having some personal issues with the question of how do I continue to move up in the ranks as I have gradually done, and still find fulfillment in nursing? Higher education and job changes have lead to less and less patient interaction. Yes, instead I am making some decisions that effect patient care but don't actually get to DO patient care. How does a nurse overcome that dilemma? I already miss it!! Any thoughts or ideas??
