Should I become an RN??

Im in my senior year of high school, and Im trying to figure out what I should major in. I was thinking on becoming an RN and then get into pediatrics but I wanted to know if on the journey to getting into it, how much blood and guts Ill be seeing, I can handle blood mostly but if its say guts just hanging out of someones body, I might get a little light headed. I want to know if while Im majoring as an RN will I have to go through stages and see every part of the nursing field. I just want to know what Ill be getting myself into.

You would be getting yourself into a great career. In nursing school you see some blood. I only saw one "guts" patient while in school and that was a recovering peds patient who had an open, healing wound. What you will find is that you become less squeamish as you learn more about the human body. You become less concerned about your own reactions and more concerned about the patient. Remember, many times when they see you, it is the worst day of their lives. It's not the worst day of yours.

Nursing school is difficult, time consuming, and rewarding. I loved and hated it at the same time. You do have to study and work in many different specialties, but it really helps you to understand where you fit into the field. Also, during nursing school they ease you in. You start with easier patients and have less responsibilities. There is always someone that can help you and it would be illegal if they didn't. I didn't start out very strong during clinicals because I was afraid of the patients and would rather just look things up in books. This passes as you learn what to say and practice more skills.

Nurse Re: Should I become an RN??
Another thing to consider-since you mentioned peds, is it because you looooove kids? If so, be very clear-you will not only help them, but you will also see them suffering and occaisionally dying. If this bothers you, do yourself a favor and give it a miss.

It is the reason I didn't go to veterinary school!!
