How to get a grant for improvements

Nurses Activism

This is my first post. I was compelled to reach out to someone to see if I could find anyone that could tell me how this works. I work in mental health. I have noticed that psychotic patients are restrained for hours, sedated for extended hours and left in their own urine or out on unit terrorizing other depressed patients. There should be a system that allows a psychotic patient move around without being constantly sedated, restrained or hurting others. I have a great and wonderful alternative. The only problem is, if I go to my leadership team they would laugh at me, blow me off and make every excuse in the book as to why it can't be done. #1 being MONEY.

For only $10k-$20k I could easily create an environment for that person that would be safe and stimulating. It could be duplicated and used as an alternative to restraints and excessive sedation.

I have been a psych nurse for over 7 years. I know my idea will improve the lives of that patient population and save money in the long run. Can someone help me on how I can write a grant for funding?

I work for a "For Profit" hospital that has a leadership team that is resistant to change if it creates work for them or costs money. All I can think of is either private donations or a government grant. I work in the state of Texas.

Can someone please help me?

Thanks

It most likely has to be trialed in research before it can be considered for use as an alternative to the current treatment. Do you have any psychiatrists who are or have been clinical researchers? If so, can you meet with them to discuss your idea?

You may need to submit a research proposal and a budget to organizations that provide research funding in order to conduct the research. Writing a research proposal and conducting clinical research is a huge undertaking and you really need to work with experienced researchers.

I have a background that includes research and some grant writing and I'd be more than happy to help in whatever capacity I can. Send me a PM if you're interested in discussing it in more detail.

I believe you need to have at posted at least 15 quality posts before you have the ability to send PMs.

Thanks for your offer. Since I posted this something has happened that has made me realize I don't belong there. That place is ran by people who don't want change. Their only goal is to fake everything so they can keep the doors open and get paid. They have no other goals. It is best for me to find a hospital where leadership cares. Any further energy in attempting to improve that place will be wasted. The committees are fake, the itineraries are fake, the diabetic / cardiac snacks are fake. When I say fake, I mean that whole place is a great big fake show for the insurance and state. How they have gotten away with this, I have no idea. You have NO idea how bad this place is. Even glassdoor is full of fake profiles.
