Nurses Disabilities

Specializes in ER, Trauma.

Sudden chink in my armor! Polymiositis. In case there's anybody who doesn't know the subject by heart (he said tongue in cheek) for unknown reasons the immune sytem decides it must attack skeletal muscles. Lot's of low back pain and fatigue. Prolonged walking or lifting are out, CPR? Forgetaboutit. Taking a variety of meds to supress the immune system, hoping my muscles will get stronger. Collecting SS Disability.

So what's my problem? I NEED to work. I NEED the human interaction. After so many years in EMS and ER I feel like I've got a lot to offer the right job. I just can't find the right job. All I can picture is a desk job (open to suggestions here). And how do I explain my physical condition (Pac Man is my immune system, and the little dots he's eating are my muscles?). Wide open to suggestion here.

Guessing I'm gonna need to relocate for this. Yuk. Would need help to do this, on a bad day just showering is exhausting. Too old to start school again. Can I get CEU's for learning to rob banks? From experience I know it's always easier to see solutions to other peoples problems with an independant perspective, so any thoughts?

What about a legal nurse consultant? Something you could do at home, on your own hours as your body allows. You sound like you have had some very good clinical years, and that could definately help. I know there are online courses or seminars you can attend for this.
