i have had dyslexia for over 20 years

it is a struggle for me with the math

and when i fill out the charts i have to carry a ruler with me so i dont

write in the wrong area :(

things tend to look backwards

at times

i wondered if there are any nurses that struggle with dyslexia

or other disabalities that make it tougher for you

testing time is the worst for me

but so far a carry a b in my college courses

Hello Leah!

Gosh, you sound like me! :D

I also had much difficulty with basic (and I mean baby basic) math skills. It took all of my energy to be able to correctly count change etc. But I persevered. I got myself math tutoring and just went over and over again "math rules"

I did well in nursing school (well, except for the "math part" of it all) and I was able to figure out ways for me to memorize formulas in order to calculate IVs, Gms to mgs etc.

Was also "hearing impaired" before there was the ADA, note takers etc.

Proud to hold my head up and say I made it despite all the "naysayers" out there who thought I wouldn't make anything of myself.

Proud to be a Nurse

Hey, kudos to YOU! Maintaining a B average?!?! Cool Beans!:yeah:

My 90 year old grandma , before she bacame terminal with cancer of the spine told me Leah you are never a quitter as long as you keep trying

you might fall , get back up dust yourself and try try again , the ones that are the failures never tried in the first place .

the first time i went to a math class it was basic math 100

i was so full of anxiety i puked from it LOL

now im doing better it takes time

im a whip at patho and bio and pharm but math is my enemy

as for the dyslexia i found out when i am stressed and tired

i tend to make more mistakes lol

but nursing and hospital work is stressing enough

i usually take on 13 patients a night

from renal failures , to heart issues , to copd and chf issues

its very taxing but i keep smiling at my patients

Say god bless you when i can

and always always pray and ask God to go before me

before i hit that floor

its a labor of love this job , and if your paitients dont see the love in you and the compassion

you might as well go home

I cant wait to be a nurse !

i know i have learned so much from other nurses

and gained their respect

they used to freak out thinking "oh god she has dyslexia

and now they see me in a different light

and know i want to do my best

dyslexia is sometimes rather humilitating and

you feel helpless at times

like everyone sees your faults

but im finding i am not alone i have met other

nurses that have the same issues with it

so i know if they can do it so can i

:D:redpinkhe God bless leah

Hi Leah, I have just qualified in march this year as a adult nurse, but with a bit of a struggle but i got there. i thank you all for sharing your struggles and determination!!!!! it just pushes me to want to become a nurse more. i am only a high schooler but it is nice to know that there are others out there that are going through simmilar things as me! i already had people tell that i will not be able to be a nurse. i know that, that is not true at all even though i am surverly dyslexic!

i thank you all!!!!!!
