Anxiety and program acceptance

I know this is probably the wrong place to ask because it's not technically nursing, but I am interested in enrolling in a phlebotomy program. Trouble is, I have an anxiety disorder and I take klonopin and zoloft for my anxiety. Entrance to the program requires a drug test. Will I automatically be disqualified because of my prescriptions? I am very concerned about this, and I didn't really know where else to ask. Thank you guys for any and all responses.

If you have a valid prescription and are using the drugs as intended, plus are not impaired as a result of using the prescription narcotics you should be able to gain admittance. Some drug screens ask for disclosure up front however the ones I have been through lately do not want to know anything up front and the medical officer will contact you if the screen has any questionable results (with the exception of illegal drugs like heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, PCP etc.) You'll then be asked to provide current prescription verification and/or documentation from your prescribing physician.

You can always talk with your physician/counselor to determine if you need additional counseling support during schooling to enable your success.

Thank you for your response. Yes I have a valid prescription from my doctor, and I am taking it exactly as prescribed, along with weekly counseling with a licensed counselor. Thank you for the information, the thought of not being able to get into the program was causing me more anxiety..lol. It's a vicious cycle, but hopefully more counseling and I will get off of the medication slowly. Thank you so much. Casidy
