Irregular Testing Schedule, Feeling Angry

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi all, so I started my probationary term with the California BON on May 5th due to a DUI I got three years ago. So far I've run the whole gamut from anger, to depression, to now, accepting that my life for the next 3 years isn't really my own. This is all fine and dandy however I'm starting to feel like the board is purposefully trying to get me to mess up.

I currently work 12s at a SNF, working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as I'm also going to school during the week as I've got a crazy goal to go to PA school when this whole probation term is up. I've been chosen to test 4 times, all were either on a holiday, a Sunday, or a day I worked.

The first time I was chosen was on Memorial Day, as all the testing centers in my hometown were closed, I had to drive an hour south to test. Luckily there was also a male on staff since no one around here will test me unless there's someone of the same sex to observe me. Four days later, I was chosen again that Friday. Since I was at work, I had to ask my boss to leave my post for an hour so I could go submit a sample.

Then I went nearly a month without being called, then this past Friday I was once again selected, and once again had to ask my boss to leave work and submit a sample, the whole time I was worrying about whether the nurse who took over my cart was checking on my brittle diabetic who hadn't been doing too great. Then, yesterday, two days later, I was again selected. Not only was I working but it was a Sunday, so I had to make sure I was able to leave work before the center where I test closed at 2:00 pm.

I'm trying really hard not to complain throughout all this but doesn't this seem like a little overkill to you guys? I mean, my monitor knows the days I work so its starting to feel like they're trying to make it as hard as possible for me to satisfy their requirements. Maybe I'm just crazy and I just have bad luck with testing days but it's been rather frustrating, especially since I have no history of diverting medications or anything other then this first offense DUI 3 years ago. Anyway, I know there's nothing I can do but just venting helps. Anyone else experience a weird testing schedule?

Hi,

Yes- the irregular testing schedule can be quite a pain... Ive been selected to test two times in a week, then sometimes nothing for a few weeks...

It should get less invasive as time goes on, its supposed to be random with a certain thresholds of times per year- so hang in there- it will get better.

Very frustrating....twice in one week, then nothing for 6 weeks. Always at most in convent times. Hang in there...

That sucks. I was California diversion program 8 years ago and never got selected on weekend or holiday. I know it has changed since. Is there labs open on holidays?

Im in Florida program now.
