Help Finding A Job

Nurses Recovery

Published

Does anyone know where I should apply for a job? My license is on probation in Illinois and I have no restrictions , I just dont know where to apply. Help please!!!

Apply, apply, apply to every job you might even be remotely qualified for that is SAFE. Even without restrictions you are not safe around narcotics (if that is your drug of choice). You will only find a 'job' when you find an employer that 'understands'. So the more interviews you go to, the higher the chance someone will take a chance on you. I am in Chicago, have over 10 years clean. It will probably be a struggle for the rest of your career.

Check and see if there is a Caduceus meeting nearby. It is a twelve step meeting for medical professionals only. You might be able to talk with other nurses, doctors, etc. about where to apply or find out where they work.

Wow-that is a great idea. I didn't know there were medical-only groups. Thanks for letting everyone know. OP-you've been given great advice, I can't think of anything to add to it. Best wishes :)

Thanks for the info everyone!!! I had a job prior to my probation being started once they found out, and not from myself, i think a fellow coworker who didnt like my saw it online told them they fired me. I was completely taken off guard because it came out of the blue and they have no policy or procedure there for nurses on probation.

Ive been applying and applying and applying. Does anyone know if there are any places that are recovery friendly in the Chicagoland area?

I saw the below ad on another recovery site. I do not live in Illinois but I noticed the area code is one for Chicago. This ad was from March but may be of help.

I am in Omaha and have been out of work for over 10 months. I have completed 4 of 5 years of probation and need to work to get that last year completed.

Good luck & here's the ad:

I am currently seeking resources to target recruitment efforts for Nurses who are currently in recovery for Alcohol and/or Drug Abuse. Our company is seeking qualified Nurses to work in outpatient and residential settings for individuals affected by substance abuse. Ideally we want to hire individuals who can relate with our patient population. The ideal candidate has strong clinical skills, and a drive to want to work in a clinic setting or Detox program. Two years of sobriety are required, probationary licensure is accepted.

Look into Clinical Research Associate (CRA). They monitor pharmaceutical research sites to be sure FDA regs are being followed. You don't need a nursing license, but they love nurses since our clinical background and education gives us a leg up on folks who aren't medical professionals. It usually requires some travel, but that depends on who you work with.
