Unable to collect AHPRA registration in time

I have a dilemma about my AHPRA registration for Australia. I have received my "in principle" registration and have been given 3 months to collect it in person and verify my ID. The issue is I do not fly until 19 days after this 3 month window has expired. I feared this would happen so I spoke to AHPRA back in March on the phone who confirmed that I would be able to gain a small extension on the time if I could prove I had a job offer and was actually coming, which I have and I am. They are now saying I was ill informed. I've paid for flights and accommodation based on what I was told, safe in the knowledge that it wouldn't be as issue, as I have no time or annual leave to fly to Australia for one night in order to collect registration, not to mention the financial implications of doing so.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? It's ludicrous that I was told this and now my future is potentially screwed and they don't seem to appreciate this. I have the call reference from back in March so I hope because I was told false information they are able to make an exception!
