Canadian practice for US-trained midwife?

Hello!

I am a recent graduate of a US nurse-midwife program and am interested in moving to and practicing in Canada. Does anyone have any experience with making the transition, or would any Canadian midwives be willing to offer their perspective?

I've looked into the bridge programs and to immigration policy, but am not sure how to navigate the process of looking for a job. Some of them require you to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. I would want to have a job before trying to emigrate, but I don't know if that is at all a possibility.

Thank you!

If you want to be a nurse-midwife you will have to focus on the steps you will need to take to become licensed as a RN in Canada first. There isn't a shortage of of local qualified nurse midwives in Canada and employers are not going to offer a job to an offshore IEN applicant. There are Canadian nurses who graduated from midwifery programs within Canada who never worked as midwives because of the competitive job market.
