Where in the US are ACNPs most in demand?

I am about to graduate from my ACNP program (will take boards in June or July) and have started looking for jobs. It would be nice if I could find something in the area where I live (central MA) but that isn't looking too promising and I am looking out of state as well, especially elsewhere in New England. Does anyone have an idea what parts of the country have the most jobs available that would be open to a new grad? As far as specialties go, I would LOVE to get right into cardiology but would also be happy to start out on a hospitalist service or similar (really enjoyed clinical rotation on hospitalist service), and am open to other possibilities as well within reason. ER is another potential area of interest. It's just hard to narrow down where to start looking when one has no information on where there is the best chance of actually getting something. Any info/tips would be appreciated!

The state of Maryland is big on ACNPs. (in order to work on "monitored" patients, ie, in the ED or ICUs ect, you have to have ACNP.) So in that respect, you would have little competition with FNPs and ANPs for those kinds of jobs. I don't know how available the jobs are right now, but if you're interested in the mid-Atlantic area, you might want to check in or around Baltimore. Just a thought.

best of luck

I seem to have better success finding ACNP jobs when I look at hospital websites in major cities and search through their career/job opportunities. I landed an interview in the three jobs I've held as an ACNP through this route.

I take it the hospitals in Worcester (too many residents, I know) weren't any help? Back in my time, St. Vincent used PAs in the ER. I would have thought they'd look at NPs as well. I assume you've contacted Milford and Leominster, etc.? I would try walk in visits to these places, with a resume ready in my briefcase.

BTW, some interesting opportunities in the military, if you like that route.

Good luck!

The Worcester hospitals indeed were no help. UMass unfortunately doesn't have anything open to new grads right now, and St. V's just doesn't have any openings period. Leominster and Marlborough have nothing; I'm not sure about Milford. Emerson doesn't have anything right now either, nor does Heywood, Nashoba Valley or Athol Memorial. I did find an opening in the Harrington (Southbridge) ER and sent in my resume but haven't heard anything yet. I'm wondering if this state just has too much competition for these types of jobs (was definitely the case for RN jobs when I finished that part of my program). As far as the military, that might be a possibility if things are really tough but it's not my first choice.
