universal healthcare

Specialties NP

I was browing through this website to see the opportunities for nurse practitioners in Florida, my state. I saw that many people were dissatisfied with the hours they received, the compensation, and the level of autonomy, granted they even found a job in Florida. My dad said that with the new universal healthcare there will be more jobs for nurses and nurse practitioners when the bill comes into action in 2014. Do you agree with this statement? Do you think the opportunities for np's will be better across the board in a few years due to the new bill?

opportunities..yes there will be more patients so theyll need more providers...which will be us. My concern is what will the compensation and resources be like for the providers from the state and the government that will allow us to provide the best quality of care for these patients? Can NPs be reimbursed at 100% instead of 85%!! Am I gonna spend forever and a day on the phone for PAs?? Is the medicaid/medicare gonna reimburse within a quicker timeframe.

Yep, I agree with that. Sure there will be more opportunities, but will we be working for peanuts? I'm in Fl too and unless the FMA backs off their bulldogs and allows us to be more autonomous it's gonna be kinda messy IMO. We will have an influx of patients that we can't fully treat. SMH.
