How to Shadow?

Specialties NP

Hi!

After determining that I definitely want to get my masters degree and deciding CRNA is out, I am stuck trying to decide if becoming an APRN is for me and what I might like to do with it. I work in the SICU now and I do not think I want to do acute care. Working in urgent care in the ED sounds promising, as I had teched there while in school with several NPs who loved their job. But other than that, I have no experience in private practise or any specialities.

Do you all have any ideas regarding how to shadow somebody? I have tried calling some local EDs to get more urgent care experience (I have called education offices and nurse managers ~ all to voicemail :( ), and I am thinking of googling local practises with practitioners and .....somehow formulating some good schpeel to get my foot in the door. Do you have any key phrases to help me sell myself??

Thanks!
