Classic Texts

Specialties NP

Published

Hi everyone,

I have a friend who is going back to school to become an NP and celebrating her 50th birthday.

I would like to give her a nice reference book.

Are there any classic texts that you felt you couldn't live without during school?

Thanks,

Cristin :nurse:

Specializes in Emergency, Cardiac, PAT/SPU, Urgent Care.

If she's going for FNP, I felt that Uphold & Graham's Clinical Guidelines in Family Practice was invaluable. The only problem is it is an older reference (mid 2000's, I believe) and I don't know if they have a newer edition coming out. That said, I still feel it is a great resource for the FNP and use mine often.

ETA: Just checked - it's from 2003. Some of the recommendations are probably outdated - but I still feel it's an invaluable reference.

Specializes in Critical Care, Orthopedics, Hospitalists.

LOL - if you want a copy of that, I'd be happy to sell you one! I have an extra. ;) I personally LOVE my Ferri's and my Current Medical Treatment and Diagnosis books - each are updated annually, which I like.

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

I love my "Primary Care Medicine" textbook by Goroll and Mulley. It's a med school textbook, but I use it every day for a reference.
