Watts school of Nursing newbie

Hi everyone!

I'll be taking my Entrance exam for Watts school of nursing in October and I am just freaking out! I've been studying for about two and a half months now, and I feel only half-prepared! I am a mediocre math student, so I was wondering how is the math on the exam? What are the specifics if anyone can help with that? Also, I hear you have to do do paperwork after the exam, anyone know what kind? Any information I should bring with me to the day of the exam? Are we actually submitting our application form or the essay?

I'm first generation in my family as well as the first to go to college so I'm really confused on this whole process.

Thank you!

Hey RiceChai,

I got my results and did really well on Part one but I blew the second part. How did you do? I have already called for the retest...they will post next month's test dates this Friday. I asked JH if test takers this late are eligible for a January start- she said no. Hopefully I will pass the reading comp the second time around. I totally froze up after part 1. My brain got fried- it has been way too long since i have been in school!

JL....Go to Watts School of Nursing June and go to page 573. I layed out some suggestions for another person that is taking the test on tues....The ideas are tossed around for 2 or three pages. If you read any more than that you'll find out how "special" our class is and will probably scare you, so I would not recommend it.

But definitely go to 573.

You can PM me if you don't get what you need.

Good Luck. I gave RiceChai some suggestions, but I'm not sure that they worked.!!!!

Sorry for the Delay...I couldn't find you and this is not a usual forum that I chat in.

I appreciate the tips Tarhealer - I think it helped me pass the test. Its exciting to know that I would wont have to take it a 2nd time.

Thank you! I have been working hard on my reading comp which I guess isn't so great because I have been out of school for 25 years! I am going to keep working on the scan and find method. I heard somewhere that the test is the same for the retest...does anyone know if that is true? Also, to answer those questions about math and part 1 worries- I scored 99 on the verbal, something like that on the spatial, but 44 on the math (didn't answer many) and it averaged me out to a 92 so don't worry about the math skills. I wish I knew that going in the first time. I thought I blew part 1 and as a result I totally blew part 2. She gives no warning when time is up so I just set my watch and monitored how far I needed to be. It was still a shock :(

Tarhealer, how do you PM someone? Do I have to have a certain number of posts?

I understand PR I did the scan and find method and it worked pretty well. It's been a good 17 years since I've been in school. Good luck on the retest.

Hey RiceChai,

I am taking the test this Thursday if this sore throat doesn't become the nasty cold my boy friend had :(. I know how you feel...I have been working hard to figure out why I can't seem to do well in reading comp. I was so spent after Part 1 last time that I think my brain turned off. I am wondering if the test is the same or different. I think I saw it somewhere that you get the same questions again....I hope we both pass on our next try!

Hello All

I am just wonering how wa the entrance exam? I am studying for it right now and hopefully taking th etest next month!

i just want to pass... any ideas on whats on the test?

please PM me, thank you!!

Also is it just math and reading? no science?? because the book that i purchased has everything in it an dim jw if all of them are gonna be there? and how many questions are gonna be on the test??

Krissy_g,

The test has no science. Part one is math, verbal and spatials (90 questions in 30 min). Part 2 is Reading Comp (40 questions in 15 min). The goal is to move fast rather than take your time. Spend 10 sec on question. If you know it, answer it. If you don't, circle it and go on to the next. The reading comp is best done as 'read the question and scan for the answer.' Don't waste time reading the paragraphs- they are long and dry. Schedule yourself for the test quickly. If you miss a seat this month, call each week, especially the week of the test and see if anyone has cancelled. That is how I got my seat.

Good luck!

Thank you so much that made me feel a little better:) and when u do a retake, is it the same question u know? I bought the book that they put online(allied health) and I was wondering if that s a good enough to study to? Is a lot of vocabulary? And when do u get ur results back? Thank god there's no science!

Also I want to ask if u can give me some examples of the questions that u remember on the test? I just want to see what kind of qs they are and if they are difficult. So sorry I have so many questions:(

Krissy,

That book is fine but the reading examples are NOTHING like the those on the test. The math and language is similar. You really get only 30 min for 90 questions. The spatials are easy enough but the only examples you get are the ones on the website- there aren't any in that book. What I did was go to Barnes and Noble, take all the different nursing entrance exam books and work on the vocab. The next thing I did was time myself on the reading making such that I worked toward answering 30-40 questions. None of the reading comprehension paragraphs are like the ones on the test so you have to read a bunch of passages to simulate the test. Remember, all you need is 50%. And yes, the test is the same for the retake.

It's not that hard if you just stay calm and work systematically.

When are you testing?

Good luck!!!
