Spanish for NICU nurses

Specialties NICU

So, I've recently moved across the country and started a job in a much bigger NICU than the one I worked in before, and there is a significantly higher population of Spanish speaking only families here. While we have access to interpreters, I still feel frustrated not being able to communicate effectively with my families as I know almost no Spanish.

Does anyone know of any good resources for learning some NICU related Spanish? The sites I've found for medical Spanish are all related to adult populations and have a lot of things that aren't relevant for the NICU.

Any help would be appreciated!

Some universities and colleges will offer a Spanish course for healthcare providers. Would you be interested in something like that? You could ask your instructor about NICU-specific words in addition to the general words/phrases that you would learn as part of the course.

That link has many basic info sheets available in both English and Spanish. I don't know what your level of fluency is, but if you're able to read some, they might be a good help in developing vocabulary along whatever theme you're reviewing. Unfortunately, my NICU Spanish resources are vocabulary and phrases scribbled messily on little scraps of paper. I review them every now and then, but they probably wouldn't be of much use to you!
