sorry I thought it would be longer.

It was actually a 3 part series. It was supposed to be on Mon-Tues-Weds but one of the days it got bumped because of Cheney, so it concluded last night. It was okay, but not nearly as good as the NICU documentaries you see on Discovery Health Channel. It was a bit melodramatic - not the babies' situations, but the way the newscasters talked.

ITA. I got all excited when my preceptor told me about it and then I was like, uh, that's...it? Okaaaay. But I did do clinicals in that unit so it was fun to recognize some nurses I'd worked with. It's such a pretty hospital.

It did look very pretty, on the inside and outside as well. The unit looks like one of those newly renovated NICUs, where there is so much room for each baby. Like a half of a room, really, for each bedside. I just can't imagine being in a unit like that - I would imagine it would be harder because you can't see all your babies at once, and making assignments must e harder. It's a great idea to have that much room, and I know that is where modern NICU design is heading - I just can't imagine!!!

We have an "open" unit. Each bedside is about eight by eight feet, and they are lined up, one after another, lining the walls of several large rooms. We have about a dozen bedsides per room. It's nice because you can see all your patients at the same time, but of course, it does get loud sometimes. We always have to leave 2 RNs in each room during breaks and stuff, keeping an eye on the babies. The unit itself is about 20 years old...we totally need a face-lift!

Yes, it wasn't that good. I just saw that last bit of it. I thought it was going to be longer.

Last night at the end of the broadcast they said that there would be one more story on tonight so I am going to watch and see what it's about. So you might what to check and see if it's on where your at too. :)

There are actually 2-4 isolettes in each room, but it's still pretty open. No doors or anything. The monitor above each bed shows the data for both your babies, so if you're at one for a while you can still see what's up. There are also computers in every nook. The beds w/the most room are for the babies on 1:1 anyway. I was actually able to watch (and be the non-sterile gopher for) a bedside open-heart procedure in that unit. There were 4-5 of us in the room the entire time, and no one was tripping over anyone else. I desperately want a job there when I graduate!
