classes needed

Specialties NICU

Hey I was wondering what classes you recommend to take in high school

Same ones you will need to take in college:

Biology

Anatomy & Physiology

Chemistry (not required where I went to school but I wish I had taken it)

Advanced types of Math (you will use a lot of algebraic math in giving meds)

Spanish (also not required but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!)

Have fun!

Just remember if you do it in High School, then in College you are seeing info twice - it'll be so much easier to remember the second time....

Triple hit of sciences.....Biology (of a human nature ie A&P, body function), Chemistry (I did it & it made my first year of nursing so much simpler) & Physics (working things like IVs, pumps and even drawing up needles is oh so much simpler if you understand some physics principles)

Maths (you don't have to be a whiz but some solid basics including algabra and fractions will never hurt),

English (nurses have to be able to communicate effectively and efficiently, no good taking a patient history then being unable to effectively record information for the next shift coming on duty)

Note - depending on where you are a second language (it can only help if there is a large population of patients with english as a second language)

Cheers & Good Luck

I don't remember having many choices...

You're obviously going to take Biology, Chemestry, and Algrabra... but some times you have choices about taking Anatomy too... sounds good.

And if you live anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line.. or out west... or basically anywhere... take four years of Spanish! And never lose it... =)
