Tuition remission for working for HHC in NYC

Has anybody heard about this (below)? Would be interested in your thoughts.

"The Helene Fuld Health Trust (HFHT), HSBC Bank USA, trustee, has established a collaborative grant between Pace University's Lienhard School of Nursing and the Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC) of New York City, which is the largest municipal health care system in the United States.

"The grant is for just over $1.3 million, payable over the next three years, and is designed to address the nursing shortage on a local level by assisting select Combined Degree Program (CDP) students in the nursing school with scholarship money. These students are "career changers" who have a college degree but have come from another profession and are now getting undergraduate degrees in nursing.

"Ten students per year will be selected for the next three years to receive financial aid in the form of full tuition remission (more than a $40,000 value) with a commitment from the students that they work in one of the HHC hospitals for four years after graduation. The beginning of this includes a one-year paid residency, a unique component of this, as nurses do not normally do this kind of residency."

Hi - I was actually a recipient of the Helene Fuld Health trust. I recently graduated from Pace's CDP program and I'm all ready to give back my four years of employment to the HHC. The thing is, they are not currently hiring nurses. I am all tied up with a contract to work for them, but now I'm not sure how all of this is going to pan out. I'm trying to stay hopeful, because I really wanted to work for the HHC and get the experience of working in the largest municipal hospital system in the US, and the nurse residency program was an added bonus, but at this point, the unreturned phone calls and emails are very discouraging. Hopefully things will work out, and I can start working soon, for the HHC or elsewhere.
