U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi,

I am applying to Saint Paul's School of Nursing for the Spring Semester that begins Jan 3, 2012. Anyone else?? :yeah:

I've done everything at this point except the orientation. It wasn't too bad the whole process. It's good u herd from them at least...if they ask u to go for the drug test etc..then Ur pretty much in pending the drug test results of course..haha but yea feel it out on Friday and Lmk what happened. U only seeing the negatives bc Ur not seeing any results yet..don't worry. It's a good school for a adn. Yea I'm set for the night classes...try switching we can study together and stuff...anyway Gl and Lmk what happens...no.what's Ur name BTW?lol

Hey all! Took HESi today and scored well. Portfolio is done and now waiting to hear back on whether or not I was accepted. I'm guessing that I should find out sooner than later though since class start in three weeks don't you think??

I think from what I've seen of the place they do a pretty good job of producing results esp since it doesn't seem like they beat around the bush to throw you into clinicals. I think the immediate hands on part speaks volumes, no? Guess it just depends what you do with the license and degree after...

Good luck to everyone! I'll be in the day class if I get in! Keeping fingers crossed and looking forward to possibly meeting you!!!

Be careful, read the thread st. paul school of nursing queens 2011. read all 4 pages of posts. They could be very helpful to you. Just saying!

Wow. Thanks for the heads up! Some crazy stuff going on over there it seems! I guess I'm just going to have to find out for myself if I get in. I guess I'm kind of fortunate cause I don't have the extra "baggage" it seems many of the students have going into the program. I hope it works out for everyone since regardless of the situation we all have a common goal! I guess its what you put into it that you'll get out of it, right?? Thanks for the info though! We shall see!!!

Hey all! Got accepted for Jan 2012!!! Woot woot!!! Looking forward to seeing you there! Anyone know of any apartments for rent that are pet friendly in the surrounding area or LI?

Hey... I am starting in Jan 2012 also.. Would someone be nice enough to give me the list of books that are needed for our first semester... I am trying to find them online for cheaper...

Thanks...

Just curious how those who started in January are doing, and what you think of the shool. I am looking to apply in the fall. Thanks

(This for everyone who is considering going to St.Paul's)

uh.so far everything has been well. ive heard about the negative complaints when i first applied. their recruiting process is a bit weird but so are other schools,so not a big issue.they have administrative issues as well but again so do other schools.I been through the CUNY system and remember similar issues.it depends on what your situation is if you want to apply. for me ima bit older so i cant waste my time anymore and this school, spson accepted me. i cant complain. if you can digest the tution (30+k) then go for it. im morally against loans and interest so consider what your financial situation is.i think given their situation the tution is warranted though. also they are moving to a new location in rego park. they have to maintain their staff and other things so it is what it is.

also consider the fact that as of now their accreditation is in the works. they are accredited by NY state but eveyone now wants national accreditation like NLN or CCNE. key point is they have articulation agreements for BSN with 3 or 4 schools that are nationally accredited. SPSON is a NLN candidate for 2013 and some of the professors are going to their office in Georgia this coming week to further work on this.So I'm praying we become accredited. It would be a HUGE/MONUMENTAL event for us and future students.SPSON would become a sure HIT.

Also know plan for a Bachelor degree because for the future an associate degree might not be enough. If you are young and dont have family, financial issues or dont have to work, and have plenty of time then you can do the ADN and eventually do everything else.if you are the opposite of what i mentioned then try to go to a school that has direct BSN program and has a solid history( Hunter, Stony Brook, etc.)

All the classes I've taken so far have been fair, if not easy. some teachers are strict and serious and alot of people take offense, but at this point you have been through HS and should be mature enough to accept that. Many people are still making childish( not coming to class, being late, not doing the asssignment) mistakes including, myself then putting the blame on others. Also for me nursing school is almost like medical school so you have to be serious. a professor will not and cannot teach you everything and about 70% of all the knowledge you aquire is from "self-study" and believe me you have more than enough resources to do this.

So far all the teachers have been nice and supportive and some also challenge us ( you need a little tough love). The administrative staff does their best to encourage and support as well( dont expect to be treated like a king/queen though).my clinical experience as well as our clinical instructor have been awesome so far.

consider what i've said and think about what your situation is. all the best.

Thanks for the reply Nike! I haven't heard anything about the move to Rego Park. Is there a time frame for the move?
