Hunter and the NLN

U.S.A. New York

Published

I am currently attending Hunter (Spring 2010). I just literally transferred and went to the orientation. I am pretty much finished with all of my pre-reqs and have a semi-ok GPA (around 3.65). They let us know that we will have to take the NLN in March but didn't really say how much weight is given to the NLN score.

Does anyone know? Is it 50% based on GPA and 50% based on NLN? Is it more concentrated on GPA rather than NLN score?

Is there an NLN score that they require (meaning, is there a cutoff?). I am completely panicking about the NLN now.

Nobody knows the answer? :crying2:

your admittance into the program consists of two things: your NLN score (50%) and your overall GPA (50%). I am also attending Hunter but the NLN is being held this month not March(it was March last year). It's actually being held all this week. Friday is the last day. They don't really require a specific NLN score but the higher the better. I know that it also depends on how everyone else that year does as well. So for instance, if the highest score anyone is getting is 125, thats considered the best score even though the highest score is 200. Let me know if you took the test this week!

Yeah, I actually literally took the test today.

Despite telling us at orientation that the test was in March, they moved it up to this week (lots of disillusioned test takers and applicants taking the test today).

I have no clue how I did. I guess I will find out in 2 weeks. I didn't really feel well prepared despite cram-studying for it with the official study guide but who knows. Maybe since other people expected it to be in March, they weren't as confident either? ;)

I will say that the verbal seemed easy and the math was not quite as hard as I thought it would be. We will see.

I hope you did well!!! You can check your score now I believe the site is nlnonlinetesting.org. Google it first to make sure. What's the competition like this year? Were there a lot of people? I took A&P and micro last semester so I'm not sure how the students are this semester. What did you think of the science? Was there a lot of physics? I hope you did well and I hope we both get in and see each other fall 2010! If you don't mind let me know what you got on the test after you check. I'll let you know after tomorrow! :)

Wow. I did not know you could get the score this quickly! The proctor told me it would take 2 weeks but I guess that meant by mail.

I scored a 131. I don't know how good or bad that is since you are saying it is relative to whatever everyone else got? No clue.

Did not do too well on math but I expected that. Aced the verbal and did moderately ok on science. There were a few algebra questions (factoring showed up which was interesting), a lot of questions that revolved around percent and decimals. The science part was not at all what I expected. Even though I did ok on it, I really guessed on quite a bit because there was a smattering of physics questions which were far more difficult than what I went over in the test guide. There were only a few anatomy/physiology questions (for shame!) and quite a few biology questions regarding plants.

I hope you do well as well! Much luck to you!

I would love to know how everyone else did on this to know how my score holds up. Ahhhh, the suspense will kill me.

Oh, and in terms of amount of people. It looked like there were about 50 (maybe more? I was nervous) taking the test during the time slot when I took it today. But, there were 8 other test time slots aside from the one I attended? So, if there were 20-40 for each one. That's a LOT of people! However, I don't know if my time slot was just overly crowded and not the norm.

Well, my GPA in my pre-reqs is pretty good (thankfully). Here's hoping things work out. *crosses fingers*

Heeyyyyyy

i'm also applying for this year's nursing

i took the exam on friday and the science portion for me was MADDDD harddd

i never even seen most of the questions on the study guide

cuz for the study guide questions, i aced them

and then when i went to lab on saturday, this girl said her questions are easier than the ones from study guide

and i was thinking this is so unfairrr :'(

anywaysss lol

did you get 131 for the composite score or the total for math (40) + science (60) + english (60)?

Do you know when will we know whether we got in or not?

i'm so scaredddddd :'( cuz i heard some people got like 140's and this girl got 154 :o

My composite was 131.

I guess it's not that great :crying2: .

Blah, whatever. We will see how everything goes. I am really bummed that they weigh the NLN so heavily to be honest. I have an amazing GPA in my pre-reqs and really in all my classes (I really pushed myself). But the NLN counts for 50% of what they consider which has been depressing me to no end. I feel like I worked so hard for the last 2 years to have an amazing GPA for nothing.

yea i agree with you

when i went to hunter, i heard that the science pre-req classes for nursing are very hard, so some of my older friends recommended me to take the classes at BMCC to get an easy A. But then i thought that the nursing program will consider where you take your classes, like I thought if I took all the pre-reqs at hunter, then they might wanna take me rather than those people who took the easy way out. But then just a week ago, when i went to the nursing advisor, she was like they only care about the GPA, where you take the class has nothing to do with their decision. So i was very maddddddd since i spent so much time studying for all these pre-req courses, and now that it's almost been two years, if i don't get in, i basically wasted 2 years of my life for nothing :'(

I hope we get in :D i heard if we do get in, we'll be able to know all teh 100 people :D hehe
