RN scope of practice in NJ

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi all! I've visited our BON website and read the nurse practice act (well skimmed it anyway), but I can't seem to find what I am looking for. I would like to find a laundry list of what RNs are allowed to do in NJ. For instance, are RNs allowed to start IVs in the jugular (with training of course), are they allowed to insert PICCs (with cert.) in NJ? I'd like to find a list that says something like: Insert foleys, Insert IVs, EKG monitoring, hanging blood and monitoring, initial head to toe assessments. THanks!!! :)

You are looking for what every RN has been looking for. A hospital (or your employer) institutes policy and procedure manuals (who can do what) based on the nurse practice act and current industry standards(whether written or unwritten). I have never found a laundry list in any nurse practice act. You know why ????? Because the role of a nurse is ever changing and expanding, year to year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
