Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

sorry aspiring nurse, I was trying to be helpful between doing my care plans, process recording reports and studying for 3 tests, so forgive me for making that mistake....btw, i do know the difference and if you want to get technical it's not ig ( which could stand for imspector general), but e.g. meaning exempli gratia and i.e. means id est ( in other words ) ..but i was preoccupied with more important things...i won't bother helping anymore...so glad I didn't give out any of the good hints

Hello everyone:) I know a ton of people are taking their tests this week, as it is the last week to do so for entrance into the Fall program. I have mine on Friday, and I am nervous to no end! I have a some questions for those Bergen students that got into the program after taking the HESI A2(it has only been given for the past year, right?)

What was your score(if you don't mind me asking)?

Any idea what the cutoff score was for your class?

How specific are the questions in the Biology and Chemistry sections?

For the chemistry questions, are they stated in such a way that you do NOT need a periodic table, or should I know the atomic numbers/charges/oxidation #s for basic elements?

How did you do in the chem/bio sections (again, if you do not mind me asking)?

What is the schedule like? How many days and hours are you in the school?

I know these are a lot of questions, and I would greatly appreciate any feedback from you guys. You have all been so generous with your time:) I am not too worried about the English and Math parts, but I have not taken Biology in ten years and there is so much I have had to re-learn for this exam that some advice on what to focus on would be fantastic.

woa its really not that serious! fisherman

i know i was reading allnurses moments before taking my hesi and i know any small detail could help and throw anyone off. i hope u do keep helping others in this post regardless of how i hurt ur feelings. i know there are many grammatical errors in these sentences, but i found studying for the hesi useful. i learned a lot about the english language in the hesi practice book, and i just wanted to share that. i attend an ivy league institution currently, and i didnt even know the difference between ig or whom and who....so i honestly just wanted to help. above i even said please dont take it personal. too bad u did-hope people could be honest with u in the nursing field and u r ready to accept some critizism or hurtful words..bcus u will need to man up a lil more.

anyway good luck to everyone goin to bergen. i really enjoyed taking prereqs there and would have liked to do my nursing there as well. Too bad i missed the deadline.

so like i said, it was only to give that person a quick review. i myself have more important things to worry about, like graduating in two weeks, finishing up a 60 page thesis, and several other 10 page papers..while also keeping up a good grade on really tough stats..and waiting to hear back from all these nursing schools...its a lot to do and i am very stressed...

WOW, a person like you who attends an ivy league institution was going to attend our community college...we would have been honored !..Oh well , our loss

ive learned more at Bergen than at that school. I would have been honored to attend bergen

Hi everybody.

Well, I took my HESI for BCC on April 14th... and I have all of my scores. Can someone please tell me what the passing score usually is to be accepted into the program? I did do pretty well, A's and B's, however, the chemistry brought me down a little bit. I am hopeing I will still get in!

Please get back to me...

Hi tdag90,

I think you did good in the exam. They base the score from TOP 90's student. Can you tell me what are some of the questions ask in Chemistry? How long did you take the exam? Can you give me some tips in some of the questions? I will really appreciate it.

They take scores from the top 90 students(1189 took it last year). I heard(but did not confirm) that someone got in with a 79 last year, but that does not really ring true. My professor mentioned that a 92-94 would secure a seat...it is all conjecture. I will say this, it will be more competitive than last year because 1.)enrollment in the school is up 30%, and 2.)this is the second year they are giving the Hesi A2, so more students know what to study by now and have more resources to do well. I personally think the way they do the admissions is really shady (GPA is not a factor as long as you have a 2.5, and I have heard of two students getting in because they "know someone"). So if I do not get in, I have a contingency plan. Good luck, and I hope to see you in the fall:)

Well my accumulative score is an 87.5, and so far the class average is a 69.

Hey MMR486... Sure I can give you some tips.

I feel bad to say this but I can remember so much about the exam except the chemistry portion which was what brought me down from the A average I was hoping for. The math, I can tell you, is VERY basic, know your fractions, division/multiplication, addition and subtraction and your percents. English, very basic too. Did you get the HESI Admissions Assessment Review book? A lot of people were unhappy with it, however, it is VERY helpful for the math and english portions. I personally, am so happy I bought it! I also found it to be very helpful for the biology section.

The exam is around four hours, I took about two and a half. It wasn't TOO bad, I'll say that. Make sure you have a good breakfast and give yourself time to get there. It def. will help. and good luck.

They also assess your personality and learning style.

tdag, where would I find the class average? And it looks like you did pretty well:)

Well the class average is located on the homepage of the Evolve Reach Testing and Remediation website. Did they send you any e-mails yet about your scores? If so, go to the website and log in to your account, if you do not have an account create one. Once you create one you can look at the left of the homepage and click where it says "my content, and then Reach testing and Remediation"..... when you go there, you'll see your scores compared to the average scores...
