Question about A&P at CSN, NSC, UNLV

I wanted to know from anyone that has taken A&P at any of these schools if you have gotten to do any dissections or if you only use models, or do it on a computer.

I have taken A&P 223 at CSN and animal parts and models were used. For A&P 224, I took that at NSC and animal parts and human cadavers were used. I hope that helps.

Thanks! I was just curious about what they used because I was told it was only models and computer stuff and that seems like it would be really hard to learn on.

Do you have any suggestions for prof. at NSC for 224 that you can share with me??

I also took BIO 223 and 224 at NSC... We used cadevars in both classes and baby pigs for disection. We never used the computer for anything. I honestly had the best prof. there is. She is an awesome professor. I took her for both 223 and 224. But she is not teaching 224 for spring. Another of the professors is real nice too =)

This past fall, I took A&P 223 at NSC and we did use animal parts and human cadavers. We were able to have time with both a female and male cadaver.

Last summer, I also had BIO 189 at NSC and we dissected a variety of animals during that session.

My classmates tell me that all 3 of the 224 profs for spring 2010 term at NSC are highly qualified and detail oriented. I heard good comments about all of them. As far as I know, none of them are easy. 224 will be hard. Pick whichever one works with your schedule and traffic tolerance.

I took all of my A/P courses at CSN and had a good enough experience, but honestly I thought that it was harder to learn on the cadavers than on the models. Unless you are working solo and get a fresh specimin (no one has overhandled it) that is in perfect anatomical condition, of course. A lot of people had problems where even the prof couldn't find something in the cadavers. Or you'd get a dull scalpel. Or a layer of adipose that is difficult to navigate through, etc. On the models there is never any confusion as to what is what, only which model it would be located on.

I'm not trying to promote any school, just saying that the models are VERY useful! :)

i took biol 189, 223 & 224 at NSC. and 251 at CSN.. i loved being able to work on a human cadaver at NSC because you can see how a human's anatomy is.. some people say biology courses are easier at NSC, i have to disagree. you learn a lot all your biology classes and the teachers can be tough. its very competitive.

I took Bio 223 last semester @ UNLV. We dissected pigs, a brain, and a sheep's eye. Computers are available for certain labs like the nervous system but it's optional. Hope this helps!

How was taking 189 at NSC over the summer. Did you struggle alot since it is a shortened period. If you don't mind how did you do grade wise. I am just nervous about taking it over the summer but need to get it taken asap. It is hard to get in to the science classes at CSN so I need to take it somewhere. Please let me know.

I got an A in the class. I actually enjoyed the summer term because I could intensely focus only on that class. 6 weeks/4 days a week is a good amount of time to learn the material and get to know the professor and do labs. The integrated lab sessions were also nice.

BIOL189 is a great class to take during the summer because it's the 1st bio class. BIOL224 would be harder during a summer.
