I am "officially" moving to Vegas!

U.S.A. Nevada

I received and accepted a position at St. Rose in the ICU; DH and I are in the process of purchasing a home in Henderson, and I'll be in Nevada by the 29th of January. Yahoo!

So, although I've been to Vegas multiple times (even got married there) and have lived in the SW before (Albuquerque), does anyone have any good tips for living in Vegas/ Nevada? Best places to meet new people, must-do activities for new residents, or additional tips?

What makes this move even sweeter is that I woke up this morning to appx. 5 inches of snow on the ground. Only a month until I'm DONE with shoveling and scraping and bitter cold. :chuckle

Wow Heather! That came on a lot quicker than you anticipated! Congrats on the job, too. Are you going to work for the de lima campus or Sienna? I volunteer at de lima, so maybe I'll see you there!

As far as meeting new people, the best ones will be from where you work. I've been here for 13 years and I think all my friends came from work. I guess it depends on what you like to do. There are plenty of churches in Henderson, rec centers, casinos too. His show is a must! I'm not big on spending the $$ for shows, but his is reasonable and very entertaining! There are plenty of other things to do though. We get our "snow" fix (I know, doesn't even sound exciting to you now, but give it a few years) at Mt. Charleston. We go fishing in the summer. There are lots of "ponds" and Lake Mead to use. Plenty of casinos offer live music. That can be fun since some of the bands are excellent. There are a few country/western clubs for dancing (not too close by though) and plenty of NICE clubs in the casinos for dancing. Red Rock is a beautiful park on the other side of town for a good nature hike or drive. We even had Thanksgiving there one year! Yep, outside amidst the trees! There is a nascar race track on the outskirts of North Las Vegas, but we haven't been there yet. Traffic is horrible when there is a race in town, but if that is your thing, it would be worth it! Lots of casinos have bowling centers that are really nice. I don't bowl much, since my scores are always between 50-75:clown: so everyone tries to give me unwanted instruction while I'm bowling! Henderson's recreation centers (about 10 of them!!) are all over town and have pools that are really good for kids (fun). I know yours are older, but they make up about 1/2 the swimmers there!

Congrats again on all the excitement! If you need phone numbers for the schools, let me know. Make sure you call them to find out what they will need for your kids to transfer. I know this time of year, being the end of a semester, it's important for them to have their grades for the report cards so their credits will be accepted. If they are going to foothill high, I have the number for the registrar, Jill. She is really nice.

Have a very safe trip over and if you need any help with your mortgage, let me know. I'd be happy to help.

Lisa

Hi Hellerd2003! Congrats on moving to Henderson! I have a quick question for you. I was actually thinking of doing travel nursing to St. Rose in the ICU. I was wondering how your experience working there has been so far? Thanks!
