Hi, Im an RN here in CA, working in ICCU and having this thoughts at the back of my mind to relocate in Las Vegas. Any one would like to paint a picture of how is it to live, work and bring your family in Vegas? I have 2 kids, a 10 yo and 6 yo. A dime for anyone's thoughts? salary wise is it comparable?

las vegas is an interesting place to live. right now housing is cheap here. if you settle here you may want to live on the nw part of town. i live in a community called cenntenial hills. it is a nice area. closer to the city gets a little dicey. we have a new hospital about to open. they are looking for nurses. it is also centrally located. right off a major road. the traffic is horrible. people out here drive like mad men. accidents occur on a hourly basis. you have to have eyes in the back of your head. i really like it here. i have a great job. i am regional manager for a company based in ca. we are attempting to open a clinic and start a new procedure for chf pts. the mds are being stubborn. good luck to you. i hope you find what you are looking for:devil:

I also live in centennial hills, and it is a nice area. I have lived in LV for 20 years original from suburban upstate NY. The summers are rough, but kids can play outside most of the year, vs. 350 rainy/snowy days in NY. You need to live as far away from the strip as possible for 'normal' life for the kids, and probably need to move every 6 or so years to keep away from rifraf, as the town keeps sprawling outwards. Have managed to raise an honors student -13 yo-- it is possible. I have heard the high schools are where the problems are, but have also heard Arbor View HS (here in Cent HIlls) is great. Drugs and crime are in every city and state. There are plenty of ativites for the kids: dance lessons, gymnastics, ice skating, karate, sports, libraries, etc.. - same stuff available everywhere else. In my opinion the problems for kids here are the parents who are more interested in gambling/ ordrinking after work than coming home to family. It is what you make of it.
