CSN Nursing School Schedule

Hey everyone!

So I just found out I got into the fall 2014 regular track Associates RN program at CSN and I'm wondering how they do the scheduling. I'm up for a promotion at work, and I want to make sure I can work around school. How many days a week is it? What kind of hours am I looking at and do you get to pick a schedule? Hey everyone!

So I just found out I got into the fall 2014 regular track Associates RN program at CSN and I'm wondering how they do the scheduling. I'm up for a promotion at work, and I want to make sure I can work around school. How many days a week is it? What kind of hours am I looking at and do you get to pick a schedule? Thank you so much for any input!

Congrats!! For the first semester schedule you will take 2 classes: Nursing 101 Intro and Nursing 125 Pharmacology. 101 has a 3 hour lecture, a 3 hour lab and a 6 hour clinical per week. Pharmacology has one 2 hour lecture per week. You have the option of taking one or both lectures online so you only have to go to campus for lab and your assigned site for clinical ( which will be in the school lab for 3 weeks, a long term care facility for 4 weeks and - rehab/sub acute care facility for 6 weeks). For my first semester I had 101 lecture and lab on Tuesday mornings, 125 lecture on Wednesday mornings and 101 clinical on Thursday mornings so I was able to work Fri-Mon part time. Usually I worked on the weekends after the exams but it was tough because of the amount of work involved.

You do get to pick your schedule but the kicker is that all of the 101 lectures/labs/clinicals are bunched up into "options". They do have plenty of options and it has never been a problem for me since they allow you to pick the days/times. I know some people who were able to get both lectures and their lab on Tuesdays and their clinical on Thursdays so they had the rest of the week to study/work. Others took only one class a day so they were at school 4 (short) days a week. The scheduling options will be like this every semester so you will have to get used to it. 2nd and 3rd semester has 2 labs/lectures/clinicals to juggle :). As far as work, I would only work full time if they will be very flexible with your schedule. The instructors like to dump a bunch of crap on you all at once and it gets a bit overwhelming. I only worked for 1st semester and not for 2nd or 3rd because it was hard on me and the schedule didn't work out well with my job. I'm a slow learner :)

Also, online lecture involves coming to campus for proctored exams (usually 4-5 per semester) so keep that in mind. Let me know if you have any more questions and feel free to join my Facebook page "CSN Nursing Students Rock". Good luck :)

How was the schedule for fourth semester? I know that we only have med surg II for like 10 weeks and preceptorship for like 6 weeks but I wanted to get an idea on how many days of school I'll be looking at.

This first semester I was able to do one day for lab n both lectures and a second day for clinical...second semester I will have two clinical days and two lab/lecture days... consolidation is key for me.

I just want to know because my husband and I want to have a baby before I graduate (fingers crossed for next summer) so that maternity leave doesn't interfere with me finding a job after licensing.

4th semester had the best schedule. 211 Clinical once a week for 10 hours x 9 weeks, 211 lecture twice a week for an hour and a half x 10 weeks, 211 lab once a week for an hour and a half x 6 weeks. 208 is hybrid with about 6 in-class sessions that are required about once a month for 4 hours during the time you're in 211. 296 is dependent upon your preceptors schedule. I did 10 night shifts on random days over 3 weeks.
