Two internship offers..can't decide!

U.S.A. Minnesota

Hey everyone!

I was offered two internships this week. I was hoping for an ICU internship but I'm still very happy that I recieved offers! One is on a cardiac unit at Abbott Northwestern and another on the nuero unit at Methodist Hospital in St. Lous Park. I'm having trouble deciding which one to take. I did not have clinical rotations so I'm not sure what I would like better. Which unit would better prepare me as a new grad nurse and make me more marketable? Also, which hospital is better to intern at? Thanks for all the help!

You'll see more medical-type and more sick patients on neuro (at least I did with my own clinicals) - my cardiac hours (St. Mary's in Duluth) were a lot of watching monitors and watching folks walk around the unit; rarely did I have an IV or antibiotic. But - if you want to go that route in the future, that might be best. I personally like St. Louis Park (driving, parking, etc). Good luck!

Specializes in ER.

I started out cardiac in my first nursing job, and the tele and critical care experience I got from doing that was invaluable when I cross trained to ER and ICU...I am full time ER now. I think an internship is awesome, and either experience will be great for you. I don't know a lot about Methodist and their neuro program, but I do know Abbott is known for excellent cardiac care. A hospital I worked at on the outskirts of the cities before I started travel nursing used to send a lot of our cardiac patients to them. Good luck in whatever you choose and congrats on getting 2 offers!

Which one did you end up choosing?
