Post-Bac/ Accelerated BSN programs- HELP!

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

Hi!!!

I am so glad I found this Minnesota board! I am wondering if there is anyone in Minnesota wanting to complete a post-bac or accelerated nursing program, and where they are going to go. I still have a few pre-reqs to complete, but I don't know where to begin! I would love to go to St. Catherine's night/weekend program, do my pre-reqs there, but it doesn't look like they are accepting applications at the moment. I only have a 3.0.. but REALLLLLLY wanna get my BSN. Is anyone in my shoes? I would love to talk to someone who graduated with a non-nursing degree who is interested in going back for nursing!

Sincerely,

Wannabe :nurse:

Hi Cari!

Welcome! I discovered this board a few months ago, and was super excited too.

I am pretty much in the same situation as you, and I think that there are others lurking out there. I have a BA in Women's Studies, and have been looking at basically all of the nursing programs in Minnesota, from associates to entry-level Master's programs. I am currently on the alternate list for the post-bac program at St. Kate's, the waitlist for the 2-year program at St. Kate's, and on the alternate list for the 2-year program at MCTC.

Are there any programs you're wondering about specifically? I've examined and considered almost every one...as for post-bac programs, most are converting to an entry-level Master's degree, a la the U of MN. I have not applied for that one, because I don't have anywhere near all of the prerequisites.

BSN vs. post-bac vs. ADN is a pretty hefty internal struggle that most of us with previous bachelor's degrees have probably grappled with. Ultimately, I'll probably take whatever comes first. I really hope to do the St. Kate's post-bac, it's definitely my top choice, but I also just want to start this new path.

Anyway, that was kind of rambly, but I hope it helped! Feel free to send me a private message if you want to chat more "offline."

Hi there

Have you considered St Kates 2 year ADN Program on the Minneapolis campus? It may be a good jumping off point and their admissions policy is more democratic IMHO then other schools...

Basically on "application day" you get in line, hand in your app with all other necessary docs ( transcripts, etc) and if you get there early enough, you have a spot!

I mention it because I too have a BA , but since I know I want to go on to advance pratice, I 'm personally not bothering with a BSN....all the schools I'm interested in do NOT require a BSN, just a BA.....something else for you to consider...rather then languishing on a wait list, maybe go ahead and get an ADN, get into the field and then get your employer to pay for you additional schooling to get a BSN ;) ?

if you are interested in St Kates Minneapolis, you should be aware that the application day is coming up soon ( usually 1st week of October I believe) so you would need to hurry to get your app done

Here is the link for St Kate's Minneapolis

The contact admissions person is Bethany Nelson who is AWESOME

Regular info sessions are held where she will sit down with you and tell you EXACTLY what you would need to do to get in the program based on your situation, credits earned etc.

In case you can't tell, I LOVE St Kates, got my B.A there too through their Weekend College, so feel free to PM me with any more questions!

Okay, I feel bad....just double checked St Kates website and it looks like they are NOT accepting Apps for 2009 this year- they will announce for app deadlines for 2010 soon, looks like :(

Bethel has a RN to BSN program and they also have a program for individuals that already have their Bachelors in another degree. I really like their RN to BSN program......1 evening per week, 1 class at a time....

Good luck......

Funny....my BA is also in Women's Studies...;)

I have a finance degree and are considering an accelerated BSN program. Does anyone know of any at all in Minnesota?

Hi! I'm new and lurking around here. I'm in similar shoes as well. I have a BS from St. Kate's and applied to their Post Bacc program for fall 2011. I actually just got an acceptance last week and I was shocked but I'm also excited. I'm love to chat!!
