as some of you may know, i am relocating to your good ol' state mn soon! i am looking for a good rn to bsn program. i am looking at 2 schools, bethel university and metro state. can you guys please give me some feed back on these 2 schools. any comments, suggestions, thoughts, anything would be welcome. i know the mn forum is traditionally quiet, but i need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:chuckle

thanks for replying!

I am a current senior in Bethel's Undergraduate program (B.S.N). Yes, the school has some religious classes as part of the cirriculum. I have two nurses I work with going to the RN to BSN program at Bethel and they really love it (one night a week!). Downside is that it is expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I love my professors and they are the most supporting people of any professors I have met (especially in the RN to BSN program).

Bethel nurses carry a high reputation among area hospitals with hiring managers and staff. Contact me with any questions!

Snowbiggie!!!!!!!!!

Specializes in MedSurg/OrthoNeuro/Rehab/Consultant.

I went to Augsburg, weekend college, to get my BS, major in nursing. I already had my RN from a hospital school of nursing. It is a private, Lutheran college but didn't seem to have a very strong religious emphases. I thought it was a pretty good program.

Specializes in OB (with a history of cardiac).

I tried to go to Bethel for 3 years and they lost my transcrpits about 2 times (the nursing dept) and then didn't inform me that I needed to give them another set of official transcripts AFTER they found my origional ones. My advisor was rude, abraisve and cold. I'm sorry if I sound rude, abraisive and cold as well, but I really didn't have luck there. I'm NOT saying they'll do the same for you, they prolly won't since it was a good 4-5 years ago. I'm sure Bethel is a fine choice of school...you WILL have to take CWC, Intro to The Bible, and Creativity in The Fine Arts before you really can get considered for the program, because they're all kinda harder classes...especially CWC.

St. Kates has an RN-BSN program that you can take evenings and weekends, which is nice. Metro State is cheapest by far- I think St. Kates is the spendiest, followed by Auggie, and then Bethel. There is that University of Phoneix place, which apparently DOES have an ACTUAL STANDING building...not just online. So, there are your options thus far...I'm actually really surprised that the U doesn't have an RN-BSN.

Strandy: thank you for posting. I hope it goes better for me at Bethel than you....gosh, that must have sucked that they lost your transcripts!!!! :uhoh3: I started the program 2 weeks ago, and you are right, I had to take CWC (Christian and Western Civilizations). Since I am not working right now, I have had a lot of time to prepare for the class. It is a lot of reading and analyzing data and transalating how the past affects us today...YUCK! But on the other hand, I am learning a lot and that's what I'm there to do...learn. Wish me luck!

I did check out MSU and a whole bunch of other private colleges, but the other private colleges where either to far or even more expensive than Bethel. MSU had a long list of pre-req's and it would have taken me years to finish my BSN. Bethel took a lot more of my credits and I only had to take one additional class to meet general ed. requirements. So that's really why I chose to go there. I too was shocked to see that the U did not have an RN-BSN program...they should start one up!!!!!!!!! :)

The only program I know in the metro is ST. Kate's(Katherine) Many of the RN's at AbbottNorthwestern attend the program. Abbott has a desire to get all RNs to BSN so they can get Magnet status. The hospital offers tuition reimbursement and flexible scheduling for students in the program. I like the format of the program with ST. Kate's.

If you would like to pursue Public Health Nursing, I recommend Bemidji State University here in Bemidji. Nice campus and good forum for that field.

I could also recommend St. Scholastic in Duluth. Good program and online classes are available. Good luck and WELCOME to MN.
