New Michigan nurse,question about meds

Hi!

I am a fairly new LPN grad, only been licensed for about 2 months, but here is my experience. I went to school in Ohio, but am licensed only in Michigan and work in Michigan, so I had a lot of research on this same issue when I began working.

Michigan laws are must more free for LPNs than many states. You do not need a certification to pass meds or to work with IVs. My hospital allows the maximum freedom for an LPN allowed by law, but the state law is fairly open and leaves a lot of flexibility to the individual facility. At my hospital, I can start IVs, push IV meds, etc. The only thing I cannot do with IVs is spike blood products(but I can supervise the transfusion if someone else actually spikes sit) and put in Midlines or PICCs. As for other meds, I can give anything. I work a usual RN assigment as an LPN at my hospital because their laws are so relaxed, The only things I cannot do for the most part is take phone orders (I have to tell the doc what I want and then hand the phone to an RN to write the order) and I cannot do an actual admission assessment with care plan without an RN co-signature (because technically LPNs cannot formulate a nursing diagnosis).

Hello,
I am having difficulty finding the answer to this question,maybe someone can help.I am an LPN in Kansas and will be locating to Michigan(southeast area).I read somewhere that some employers require a card from NAPNES saying you are certified in pharmocology to work for some employers. Can anyone tell me your experience with this, is this something one needs to have a better chance of employment? Also, can Michigan LPN's be IV certified? I am in Kansas but I'm having problems finding the scope of practice for Michigan. Thanks for any help!
