Eastern Michigan University (EMU) tradional nursing program

U.S.A. Michigan

Hello does anybody know if it is a very hard program to get into? I am planning on applying in May and I currently have a 3.75gpa but I should be higher after this semester is over. Also I know that Eastern does give points for taking courses at Eastern. I am a transfer student so some of my course were taken at my other college. Will that really lesson my changes a whole lot of getting in?

Hi Anesbound,

What program the traditional or accelerated did you get accepted into?

I just got my acceptance letter too!

How exciting. Hope to meet you for orientation and I will say a prayer for those who also applied.

I took my A&P (8 credits) and 1 other class at EMU with a 4.0, limited healthcare experience. All my other classes were at WCC. I got into the traditional program.

I was accepted into the traditional. Didn't apply for the accelerated. I don't have enough time on my hands to compress my courses. ;)

Oh well, I didn't get accepted. I kind of anticipated this based on the information session- applicants with healthcare experience received additional points, as well as applicants who had taken coursework at EMU. I had a 4.0 pre-req gpa, and I'd also already taken pharmacology and patho with "A's," but based on the point system ---- discussed, I maxed out at 145 points because of lack of healthcare experience- my hospital volunteer hours didn't count. So basically to have a shot for this cohort, you need healthcare experience and/or pre-reqs taken at EMU. This isn't the case for all schools though.

I was accepted into the accelerated 2nd bachelor's program. I had a 4.0 overall, all of my pre-requisite classes were taken at EMU, and I passed the TEAS. I feel very fortunate given the high competition this year! I am sorry for those who didn't get it. Don't let it deter you from going for your dreams. Just keep taking the classes you can apply to a nursing degree and apply again next year, or to other schools.

Hi Everyone,

I went to a nursing information several years ago and I heard there is now a point system. I found a pdf file on EMU's web site, but it was for 2007 and I was curious do you get points for pre-req GPA or is it just points for the chemistry & A&P classes taken? On the PDF file it didn't say anything about pre-req GPA for the admission criteria.

how do you provide proof of healthcare experience?

I think you had to provide a statement of working at ABC Nursing Home or whatever. Had to be on their letterhead. Things change so I would make an appointment with an adviser to see what is current. I know they are always evaluating the programs and admission process and I'm sure the website is most current.

like a check?

does it matter how long ago it has been?

Has anyone turned in their application for the Fall 2012 Nursing School Traditional Program yet? I did and waiting for that letter in June!!

Yes, I applied for the fall traditional program. I'm going crazy and running to the mailbox everyday. I called the nursing department today and was told that the decision letters have begun going out and I should hear something by the first week in July. My fingers, toes and anything else I can cross are crossed!!!

Hello everyone!

I'm a transfer student from WCC to eastern (starting this fall) I've taken a lot of the program pre-recs at WCC but I'm retaking all but A&P and English over the course of this year. I'm transferring with a 3.6 GPA with 2 years of healthcare work under my belt. I'm super worried about the point system and I know EMU favors their students. Do you think I'll have a decent chance of getting in!?! I'm so worried!! THanks for any help and advice!
